ESSENTIAL L1 - HOW TO SOLVE THE "STUCK" UNIT PROBLEM IN TEST MODE

PHENOMENON: Upon power-on, the ESSENTIAL L1 displays "TEST MODE."
REASON: Your ESSENTIAL L1 is now running in the factory test mode, a program we designed to help us calibrate and test the unit more efficiently.
SOLUTION: Update the firmware to the latest version using Donner Control.
This article will help you restore your ESSENTIAL L1 to user mode. Before that, I offer my sincerest apologies for this disappointing experience.
As an analog synthesizer, factory calibration and testing are essential. We carefully calibrate and test each ESSENTIAL L1 before shipping it to our customers. This process involves a long list of tasks, which would be too time-consuming to manufacture without dedicated factory firmware. Thus, during the calibration and testing processes, we load the factory firmware onto the ESSENTIAL L1.
After this process, we need to load the official firmware before moving to the next stage. However, a problem occurred when our QA department re-checked some units from a batch. They forgot to restore the initial firmware after testing the unit in test mode.
I hope the above has given you a clear understanding of this issue. The unit you receive is carefully calibrated and thoroughly tested. You just need to load the user firmware by following the instructions below.
HOW TO UPDATE THE LATEST FIRMWARE (AUTOMATICALLY)?
1. Install the Donner Control software on your computer. You can download the latest software from our DOWNLOADS page. (https://www.donnermusic.com/en-US/support/downloads/detail?first=SYNTHESIZERS&second=SYNTHESIZERS).
2. Connect the ESSENTIAL L1 to your computer using the supplied USB cable. Power on the ESSENTIAL L1. Run the Donner Control software and wait for communication to establish.
3. Go to the ESSENTIAL L1 control panel and switch to the "Upgrade" tab. Click on "Check Version," then click "Upgrade Now" to upgrade the firmware from V1.2.0 to the latest version (V1.2.1).
4. After the upgrade, your ESSENTIAL L1 should restart and run with the user firmware. Now you can play with it, enjoy its excellent sound, and have a good time ;)
If you encounter problems following the above instructions, don't worry; you can always repeat the process from STEP 2. You can also try updating the firmware manually by following the instructions below.
HOW TO UPDATE THE FIRMWARE MANUALLY?
1. Install the Donner Control software on your computer. You can download the latest software from our DOWNLOADS page. (https://www.donnermusic.com/en-US/support/downloads/detail?first=SYNTHESIZERS&second=SYNTHESIZERS).
2. Download the ESSENTIAL L1's initial user firmware to your computer using the following link. (https://storage.donnermusic.com/official-user/202507/L1_0.9.0.syx.zip)
3. Connect the ESSENTIAL L1 to your computer using the supplied USB cable. Power on the ESSENTIAL L1. Run the Donner Control software and wait for communication to establish.
4. Go to the ESSENTIAL L1 control panel and switch to the "Upgrade" tab. Click on "Rantion" 10 times to trigger an "Upgrade" button.
5. Click on the "Upgrade" button and select the initial firmware file downloaded above. Then wait for the upgrade process to finish.
6. After the upgrade, your ESSENTIAL L1 should restart and run with the user firmware. Now you can play with it, enjoy its excellent sound, and have a good time ;)
